The much-delayed Installation meeting of Runnymede Council in the Allied Masonic Degrees and the scheduled meeting of Chertsey Abbey Council in the Order of Royal and Select Masters were held on Friday, 2nd October, at Surbiton, with the same six members representing both Councils.

The Runnymede meeting was opened in the Degree of St. Lawrence the Martyr by W.Bro. Gareth C. Lewis, smoothly assisted by the five other members present – V.W.Bros. Eric Trodd and Trevor D. Currans, and W.Bros. Christopher G. Lewis, Michael J. Flint and Leslie Grout – each taking key ceremonial offices as required.

Having dealt with outstanding administrative matters, the election of officers resulted in Gareth being re-elected as W. Master for the ensuing year. He was then proclaimed by V.W.Bro. Trevor, D.C., in his usual able manner and enthusiastically saluted by all present. W.Bro. Gareth proceeded to appoint his officers, who were unchanged with one exception, W.Bro. J. Martin Dunham as Jun. Wdn., caused by a resignation.

Following an Almoner’s report, the Council was closed.

After the re-arrangement of the temple, the scheduled October meeting of Chertsey Abbey Council in the Order of Royal and Select Masters was opened by Ill.Comp. Gareth C. Lewis, again leading the five officers who assisted at the preceding meeting and who, for health reasons, occupied the same physical chairs as previously.

Following the conduct of the administrative tasks, the election of officers resulted in R.Ill.Comp. Christopher G. Lewis being declared T.I.M. for the ensuing year.

After the dispensation was read, permitting R.Ill.Comp. Chris to occupy the chairs of two Councils concurrently, Dad was installed by his son, Gareth – a rare such occurrence - in a ceremony enjoyed by all present.

The officers of the Council were then appointed with just two changes – Ill.Comps. J. Martin Dunham and Lawrence A. Bell-Wright becoming Dep.M. and Chap. respectively - those present acknowledging their investitures.

The closing of the Council of Select Masters by R.Ill.Comp. Chris Lewis completed two competently conducted meetings, made enjoyable by the forethought and preparation of the attendees, especially Trevor, our D.C. and advice from R.Ill.Comp. Chris.

Eric Trodd – Sec./Rec., Councils 191/254.
