Glorious Guildford
Forget glorious Goodwood, Sunday the 9th July saw yet another glorious event, the Surrey Allied annual Hog Roast which was possibly the most colourful hog roast to date with even more caribbean and outlandish shirts being on display.
The weather although dry and bright wasn’t as sunny as normal but this was more than made up by the sunny disposition shown by all those who attended. Again the event was another sell out which always raises a huge amount on the day for charity.
With the usual large number of raffle prizes donated, resulting in nearly all the tables winning at least one prize and these again being distributed to the winning tables by the band of little helpers as usual…thanks Kids!
This resulted in £950 being raised for Charity which was made up to £1,000 by Wally Maynard, thanks to Wally this made it the largest amount raised at the Hog Roast.
The prize for the best carribean shirt this year went to ‘Zimmo’ who went beyond the usual attire by turning up in a nice matching ensemble which included a grass skirt! He not only looked the part but even turned a few heads… a great effort Zimmo, well done.
This event is always a success and thanks must go to Kevin Brennans for organising the event, Ray and Jenny Beadle for donating a lot of the prizes, Alan Brockwell for overseeing proceedings and John French’s family for encouraging the sale and distributing those very important raffle tickets, Guildford Masonic Centre and their super staff for providing a lovely lunch and ensuring that everybody was well looked after and to the whole membership of the Allied District of Surrey and their friends and families who regularly support this event every year.
